I am already deeply in love with this game, which makes sense because it contains everything I love in a very pretty, appealing package. The game focuses on detective work, is set in the 1940's, and focuses on clue finding and the like. It also expects you to pick up on facial clues and tells when interviewing suspects because the facial mapping and real time expressions are gorgeous and rendered with some kind of ridiculous 32 camera facial feature recognition system. It's impossible to describe it until you see it in action.

The premise is you play Cole, who is a WW1 hero who joins the police, and is quickly promoted to Detective - after barely a year on the beat.

Part of the game involves side-scenes or back-scenes you view through reading stories in newspapers about a Shrink helping WW2 stress/shock victims cope. This side story features a young war-veteran Courtney (yes he is a guy) who has turned to the study of psychology after his experiences with seeing what's become of some of his friends who went through the war.

The first few scenes set up that he is doing so to try and help one of his friends in particular, whom he is close to, and the senior psychologist agrees to try and help the affected person. The followup scenes indicate that he is the sort of psychologist who masks a problem by deeply addicting his patients to drugs.

Little alarm bells are going off in my brain, especially as things keep going so well for Cole, his career fast-tracking in a way that's pretty fantastic even for a war veteran.

What if he is Courtney's friend, living in a world of his own imagination, sedated and stuck in this fantasy of his own creation, something like Shutter Island? I'm not positive that this is the case, but my mind is already turning it round and round, and even if it's not true, I'm betting it would make for some fantastic fic.

That I shouldn't be writing because ... I have so many other things to do. Like finish the game!

In short, if you enjoy detectives, Noire, crime drama, and/or the 40's (they've authentically re-created a section of 1940's accurate L.A. for goodness sakes!), the game is worth playing for sure.

It is really like Grand Theft Auto 4 and Heavy Rain had a baby in the forties. And dressed it in a snazzy suit.
