Working Sample:
“Bring me the longest one,” She would eventually ask of Simon, middleaged and single (and oh how the townswomen whispered), and he would grin and push his small round glasses up on his nose as if tasked with the most serious quest in the world.
“Long or short, I’ll see it again the week after I bring it.” He laughed one day, and shook his head. “You ought to branch out a little though, maybe try some histories or classics. All these fantasies’ll go straight to your head.” He didn’t really think that though – he always brought her what she asked, and sure enough it seemed that his opinion was that children could very well indulge in whatever fantasies they wanted. He was known for expounding on a few of his own now and again – a fat novel about the west, or a sailor’s log almost always tucked in the pocket of his blue shirt.
