Mercer once broke The Cane? That must have being an interesting day XD

I envision Beckett getting slightly overzealous with the poking on one day or another - perhaps he's distracted by some bout of bad luck or business. One poke too many, and Mercer yanked it out of his hands and broke it over his knee.

Certainly, I think Beckett would probably even be too shocked to argue - for a moment or two. Also, really, would you want to correct someone who could break a hard wood cane in their fingers? (Well, not without the proper planning and equipment anyway...)
