I was also quite unhappy with his fate in AWE. Then I stopped, and considered. When has death really stopped anyone in Pirates-verse? No one worth his salt has let an on-screen death stop them from coming back!

Calypso is a blast to write - originally, she was hard for me to come to terms with on a writing basis. Then I realized as long as no one can really tell exactly what her motives are (me included), she's spot on.

Jack and the Pearl. Of course he wants her back - if he can love anything more than his own hide and rum, it's the Pearl. Unfortunately, the only way he and Barbossa are going to settle scores there is for both to have a ship, one way or the other.
